Humanist civil celebrants conduct a variety of ceremonies for the humanist-minded that are not religious in nature. Ceremonies that humanist celebrants officiate include weddings, funerals, baby namings, reaffirmation of marriage vows, coming of age ceremonies, divorce ceremonies, commitment ceremonies and milestone ceremonies. Marriage celebrants complete a government mandated training program before registering as an authorized Commonwealth-registered marriage celebrant.

The Attorney-General, the Hon. Mr Justice Lionel Murphy (1922–1986) first introduced the civil celebrant program in response to the unfair restrictions placed on marriages of divorcees and the non-religious. With the introduction of civil celebrants in 1973, couples won the choice of marrying at the location they wanted and the time they wanted. Such is the popularity of this innovation that, today, more than three quarters of all marriages conducted in Australia is performed by a civil celebrant.

The humanist civil celebrants listed here will help you at all stages of your ceremony, from the initial design through to rehearsal and final staging of your important event.

I have been practising as an authorised civil marriage celebrant for over 10 years and have performed over 300 weddings. I also perform other forms of personalised rituals and ceremonies, such as naming ceremonies and renewal of vows. I am available all days of the week and am happy to travel within metropolitan Melbourne and further afield. I have a portable PA system with outlets for an iPod and microphone. The feature of my work is that I really enjoy what I do and I believe in creating ceremonies that are meaningful and personalised.
