Legal Immunity for Religion

Since 2009, the Humanist Society of Victoria has objected to religious exemptions from a number of anti-discrimination laws, initially at the State level of government and since 2012 at the federal level. For example, it has opposed the capacity of religious schools to discriminate against students or staff on the basis of gender attributes. The Society lodged submissions at the federal level which were critical of religious discrimination in 2012, 2013, 2020 and 2021, as well as those on religious freedom in 2016 and 2018.
