Humanists Victoria sponsors the Philosophy Matters Meetup group.
On 23 July, 30 of us met online on Zoom to listen to the second part in our two part series on the future of democracy.

In his talk, ‘Democracy in Our Time: Is It Worth Defending?’, Dr Vince Giuca discussed the meaning of “populism” and the pull it has on certain parts of the electorate. He also surveyed the strength of democratic institutions and processes around the world and citizens’ changing attitudes to democracy.
Vince ended by highlighting the threats that the increasing corporatization of social media has in eroding the social cohesion and shared understanding necessary for the future viability of democracy as a form of government.
Following the talk were many questions and a very lively discussion on the forms and future of democracy.
