How a Charter of Human Rights Benefits Everyone

This grant continues the work supported by Humanists Victoria last year.

In Australia, human rights are not adequately protected in law. This lack contributes to social inequality and disadvantage which disproportionately affects particular communities, for example Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and people with disability.

This project will grow community understanding of the need to protect human rights in law and of how it will benefit everyone, especially marginalised communities. The project supports our goal of securing an
Australian Charter of Human Rights. A Charter would provide a clear legal framework and contribute to the
realisation of those rights for people and communities across Australia.
