Why Australia needs a Charter of Human Rights

Hugh de Kretser is one of Australia’s leading human-rights lawyers and advocates. He has been Executive Director of the Human Rights Law Centre since 2013 and served on the Centre’s board when it was established in 2006. He is leading the campaign for an Australian Charter of Human Rights. More information on the campaign is available at www.charterofrights.org.au.

Hugh is also a Director of the Victorian Sentencing Advisory Council, a member of the Advisory Board of the University of Melbourne Law School and a board member of the International Network of Civil Liberties Organisations.
