The Humanist Voice in Local Government

Humanists Victoria Public Presentation

Victor Franco is a councillor at the City of Boroondara. After a three-year campaign, which was supported by Humanists Victoria, in October of this year he finally succeeded in removing prayer rituals from the formal proceedings of council meetings. He is among a number of Victorian councillors who have jointly written to the State Government, the Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, and other bodies, opposing the inclusion of religious worship in council meetings and urging them to protect freedom from religion.

Victor was a founding director of Atheist Alliance International in 2011 and is a member of Humanists Victoria. Before being elected as a councillor, he had a long career in local and federal government. He was a senior advisor to various senators and a senior policy advisor in the Commonwealth government in the areas of industry, science and environment. He was also chief of staff and senior advisor to two Lord Mayors of Sydney, as well as a director and member of the Executive Committee at the City of Sydney. He was also head of Transport and Traffic at the City of Brisbane.

This talk will follow the 62nd annual general meeting of Humanists Victoria at 7.30 pm.
