Origins of Australasian Peoples

February 25 @ 19:30 - 21:30 AEDT

In the last decade DNA evidence has established another early human species, the Denisovans, and revealed how they interacted with other hominins, including the Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens.

Dr Irene Gallego Romero, from the Integrative Genomics Unit, School of Bio-sciences, at the University of Melbourne, has been involved in this exciting new area of research, especially in the Indonesian archipelago, and will discuss how this new genetic information has changed our understanding of human evolution and some of its implications with respect to health.
