This extends the work supported by Humanists Victoria last year. The case will be made to the Victorian Government for assisting lower-income home-owners and renters to switch from gas to renewable electricity and thermal upgrades. This will be done by harnessing public support and by promoting a public ‘Get off gas’ pledge for homes and businesses. The argument will be put that the gas transmission network needs an equitable, rapid retirement plan, with measurable targets and timeframes. The Government will also be urged to commit to means-tested budgetary measures that would fund rapid fuel-switching and efficiency retrofits for lower-income homes and businesses. HV has awarded ten thousand dollars to this project.
