The Humanist Society of Victoria is hosting the 52nd Annual Convention of the Council of Australian Humanist Societies. Have you booked for this exciting Humanist event?
Where: Ibis Melbourne Hotel and Apartments, 15-21 Therry Street, Melbourne, Victoria
When: Friday 7th April to Sunday 9th April 2017
Keynote speakers include UK philosopher and author, A. C. Grayling, and world-renowned ethicist and philosopher, Peter Singer, and many others from across Australia.
The Convention theme, Ethics in an Uncertain World, captures the concerns of many people here in Australia and around the globe. Convention speakers and delegates will be confronting the most pressing issues facing society today and discussing how Humanists can help to shape a better future for all.
In today’s uncertain world, we believe Humanism is well-placed to offer a way to live both ethically and enjoyably. For at its core Humanism aims to take the best ideas humanity has come up with and assemble them into a life-affirming worldview. These ideas require individuals to be open-minded, to examine evidence for and against any action, and be willing to change their mind if circumstances and evidence leads them in a different direction. It also requires humans to live ethically and responsibly, in cooperation with fellow humans, and to be mindful of the needs of other species and the sustainability of the natural environment.
Many people have been working hard to make this Australian Humanist Convention a success. They have secured an excellent line-up of speakers, including:
A.C. Grayling – Humanism, the Individual and Society
Peter Singer – Public Ethics in the Trump Era
Clive Hamilton – Humanism and the Anthropocene
Meredith Doig – Interbelief Presentations in Schools
Monica Bini – World-views in the School Curriculum
Visit here for the full schedule of seminars, forums and workshop sessions. With tickets for a single day starting from $50 and for the full convention from $150, the weekend promises to be educational, motivational and fun for all who attend.
We hope all our members will attend. And we ask you to publicise this Convention as widely as possible. Direct people to the Convention programme and the CAHS convention booking portal. Ask for posters to distribute in your neighbourhood.
